Taking in Philly Tech Week as a First-Time Participant
Post Date – Friday, May 19, 2017
The 7th annual Philly Tech Week took place April 28 – May 6, 2017. NorthStar Solutions Group was not only a first-time event sponsor for this year, but also a first-time attendee. The weeklong celebration of all things tech featured dozens of companies, 100’s of events, and maintains a strong social media presence – including the trending #PTW17 hashtag.
From engaging sessions to a host of networking events all of which were held in trendy locations and hubs. For the weary seeker, organizers broke up the ample number of events into seven different tracks: Creative, Access, Dev, Civic, Business, Media and Sciences. NorthStar employees took advantage of the available events, attending a collective of a dozen individual sessions. One of the NorthStar team members attending sessions was Scott Mederios, VP, Strategy Execution & Operational Excellence.
Here are the three highlights from Scott’s Philly Tech Week (PTW) experience:
Q: What made PTW stand out compared to other events attended in the past?
A: While I have attended large vendor conferences and events before, PTW stood out on its own. The cross function of PTW made it to be the unique celebration that it was. With wide subject manner made available to all levels of experience, it clearly holds opportunity to vast crowd in the technology, business, and marketing fields. The sessions brought together a showcase of energy and vitality of the environment.
Q: Out of the 100s of events available during PTW, which programs caught your attention and why?
A: As a traveler coming up from Virginia, it was key to myself to pick a day where I could get the most out of the events I attended. I also looked to pair the events with what would not only benefit myself, but would benefit NorthStar in our organization. In leading our Strategy Execution group, it was important for me to gain exposure to areas of marketing, performance, and industry trends. For these reasons, I attended the “Playbook for Growth” “Smarketing” and “Beyond Clicks”.
Q: Was there a topic first introduced to you during PTW? How does it correlate to what you are seeing in the current industry?
A: “Smarketing” led by Dan Tyre, together with Hubspot, gave me a greater insight into the inbound marketing genre. I come from a traditional sales background, going out and finding your leads. How inbound marketing and sales correlate and can be an effective machine was a thought-provoking session that relates to similar needs we find with our clients. Some of these techniques can be tailored towards startups – ways to be nimble, pull together the alignment with sales, trying to reinvent, another way to learn in a dynamic world.
The final event attended was the annual Signature Event, held at Pennovation Center. The NorthStar team mingled and networked surrounded by a combination of leading companies, demos, food, and drinks. Wrapping an engaging week. From all Philly Tech Week 2017 had to offer, it cultivated opportunity to collaborate and share insights on all that is up-and-coming in the technology business and innovation. NorthStar looks forward to continuing our Philly roots in technology and solutions through 2017 and participating again in 2018.
